Probably should have read this one before seeing the mini-series on HBO as the voices blended together in such a way that it was hard to follow the history。

I often had to catch myself and force myself to realize that the graphic horror I was reading wasn’t fiction。 The snippets of many different experiences somehow seemed to paint a more full picture of the truth of chernobyl。 This was a horrifically fascinating book that highlighted the power of the collective overpowering the small red flags within。

Sad， raw， heartbreaking and graphic。 This book recounts the experiences of people who were directly affected by the Chernobyl disaster and it is now for everyone because it gets too sad and the experiences described here - are just too much too handle for some people。

I started this Nobel prize winning work after me and Baris binged HBO's "Chernobyl"， possibly the best TV series we watched in a long， long time。 An exquisite show。 The reality of the time also turned out to have so many parallels to living in a pandemic。 （especially the part where people refuse to believe that something they cannot see with their eyes could kill them。。。） Chernobyl is personal to me also because in Turkey in the late 80s and early 90s a lot of people in the Black Sea region espe I started this Nobel prize winning work after me and Baris binged HBO's "Chernobyl"， possibly the best TV series we watched in a long， long time。 An exquisite show。 The reality of the time also turned out to have so many parallels to living in a pandemic。 （especially the part where people refuse to believe that something they cannot see with their eyes could kill them。。。） Chernobyl is personal to me also because in Turkey in the late 80s and early 90s a lot of people in the Black Sea region especially had higher cancer rates。 One of them is Kazim Koyuncu， a Turkish folk singer of Laz origins， who died very young。 I always wondered how much radiation we in Turkey absorbed during that time （I was 5 when it happened， and Belarus & Ukraine are right across from the Black Sea）This book is。。。possibly the most raw， visceral， yet beautifully written work of non-fiction I read in a long time。 The first chapter shattered me。 I was trembling and had tears in my eyes， and had to hug Baris for a long time afterwards。 It is not easy to read， definitely a punch to the gut。 Yet I have read few other books that capture the human soul and the struggle to survive so well。 It will probably stay with me for the rest of my life。Deeply philosophical and moving。 I have probably not read anything like it before。 。。。more

¿Queda algo de bondad en todo este baluarte en ruinas？Anthony Doerr， La luz que no puedes ver Coincidir con Li en este último año， ha sido un aprendizaje y crecimiento increíbles， compartir lecturas， ver películas y series， discutir todos los temas que nos interesan， convivir día a día， compartir experiencias y puntos de vista。Un día， Li preguntó que si había visto la serie de Chernóbil o que si me interesaría verla; y le respondí que por supuesto que sí quería verla。Creo que no nos llevó mucho d ¿Queda algo de bondad en todo este baluarte en ruinas？Anthony Doerr， La luz que no puedes ver Coincidir con Li en este último año， ha sido un aprendizaje y crecimiento increíbles， compartir lecturas， ver películas y series， discutir todos los temas que nos interesan， convivir día a día， compartir experiencias y puntos de vista。Un día， Li preguntó que si había visto la serie de Chernóbil o que si me interesaría verla; y le respondí que por supuesto que sí quería verla。Creo que no nos llevó mucho darle fin， y con el aura de la miniserie y leyendo la entrada en Wikipedia de la misma， me enteré que estaba basada loosely en este libro de Alexiévich。 Esto lo leí en la oficina， así que al volver al depa， fui directo al librero y lo saqué con la intención de darle una hojeada。Una decena de páginas después， simplemente no podía soltarlo。La serie es buena， muy buena， permite al espectador irse formulando las preguntas， pero el libro es brutal， frontal y violento， compasivo y reflexivo。 Es un puñado de humanidad vuelto tinta sobre papel。«Y me estoy destruyendo con esta incapacidad de comprender。 Porque no reconozco este mundo»， Piotr S， psicólogo （61）。 Mientras leía el libro y comprendía con más detalle el horror que significó para la humanidad este acontecimiento， no paraba de preguntarme cómo demonios no es algo que me hayan explicado mejor durante la escuela。 Esto sucedió en 1986， y me queda más que claro que no fue algo que vio la luz cabalmente hasta muchos años después， sin embargo， ¿por qué diablos no es algo más difundido？Hay dos “críticas” feroces que plantea este libro testimonial: el cuestionar la ciencia y el espejismo del progreso， pero al mismo tiempo， la “visión” humanista de la vida。 Y con ello encuentro puentes que comunican con las mismas críticas que viene haciendo John Gray desde hace ya varios años。Creo que sí fue importante que Svetlana obtuviera el Premio Nobel de Literatura， puesto que puso en el mapa a un mundo más amplio de personas su obra， que en palabras de Alfred Nobel， es un premio que debe entregarse a una autora （o autor） que «produced the most outstanding work in an idealistic direction»。No estoy tan seguro de qué quería decir Nobel con idealistic， aunque seguro es un producto de su época y de lo que lo orilló a crear los premios en primer lugar; pero Svetlana dista mucho de ser idealista， al menos no me lo parece en esta obra， que es la única que he leído de ella。En uno de los testimonios se plantea la disyuntiva sobre cómo se puede pensar en la eternidad cuando se tiene que pensar en el pan de cada día， y siento que “eso” es un papel importante de la literatura， de la filosofía: cómo pensar en esto último cuando el día a día se va en sobrevivir。¿Cómo responder a la pregunta de quiénes somos？ ¿Qué es para nosotros la vida？ «¿Qué hemos entendido de nosotros mismos？ De nuestro mundo»。 （Guenadi Grushevoi， p。 219）Es un libro duro， las voces y sus matices son plasmados en dos dimensiones， pero con una profundidad que hace eco en el lector， no hay manera de leer esto y salir indemne， sin alguna abolladura emocional， sin un vacío alimentado por la incomprensión de lo amplio que puede ser el comportamiento humano。Definitivamente un libro que es necesario leer， y releer y estudiar。 Definitivamente una autora que merece premios， reconocimientos y difusión。No sé qué estés leyendo últimamente， pero te recomiendo que te hagas de este libro cuanto antes y te sumerjas en él。 。。。more
